A soccer tournament at a Palestinian school in Tulkarem in the West Bank this week was named after Ziyad Da'as. Da'as planned the attack in which a gunman opened fire with an M-16 rifle at a bat mitzvah party in Hadera in January 2002, killing 6 and wounding 30. Western governments have recently renewed funding of the PA, including its schools. In reporting the story, the PA-owned daily Al Hayat Al Jadida glorified the terrorist as "one of the brave people of the Palestinian resistance."
