Iran has test-fired nine long- and medium-range missiles, including a Shahab 3, which it previously said could reach Israel and U.S. bases in the region, and yesterday, the stupid ape called for U.S. military bases across the world to be "eradicated."

"The military bases in the whole world should be eradicated and removed," he told a press conference after a summit of the "D8" group of developing nations in Malaysia.

Somebody better crush Mahmoud Ahmadinejad soon. One of the obstacles in accomplishing this will be if Obama becomes president; no doubt if that should happen, Ahmadinejihad will be wined, dined, and hero-ified, just like other Muslim leaders have been by arabists, leftists, progressive socialists and palestiniasts.

Exclusive: Hizballah received 35 new Iranian speedboats shortly before current crisis

DEBKAfile's military sources report that three weeks before Hezballah seized western Beirut, the Shiite terrorist group took delivery of 35 fast speedboats for use with explosives from Iran. The craft can threaten US Sixth Fleet and Israel Navy shipping close to Lebanese shores, reach Israel's Haifa and Ashdod Mediterranean ports and raid its coastal oil installations.

The speedboats were tailor-made for Hizballah by Iranian Revolutionary Guards shipyards at Bandar Abbas as the only marine terror fleet operating in Mediterranean waters. Our military sources report the boats are capable of carrying chemical, biological and radiological weapons systems.

They were delivered in mid-April by an Iranian freighter at the Syrian port of Latakia and trucked to Naimah port south of Beirut. There they were hidden in the subterranean hangars belonging to Ahmed Jibril, head of the Palestinian Liberation Front-General Command. Today, the PLF-GC is financed and directed by the Revolutionary Guards. The hangars were constructed in the seventies by East Germany engineers with a protected Mediterranean anchorage and made virtually impenetrable by sea or air.

Army Prepares Public for Missile Attack

Brochures are being mailed to homes across the country explaining to civilians how to prepare for missile onslaughts against Israel. The campaign also includes a number of radio and television commercials - including one intended for children. The campaign's slogan is "Being ready means being protected."

"The campaign is one of the main lessons we learned from the Second Lebanon War," a senior officer said Sunday. "This is our way of helping the public get ready for the possibility that war will break out in the future."

"The best way to protect oneself during a missile attack is to stay indoors in a bomb shelter or an inside room that does not have windows to the outside," a top officer said. "During the Second Lebanon War, 90% of the civilians who were hurt from Hizbullah rockets were outside."

Hizbullah's main operational goal prior to the July 2006 war was to conduct a war of attrition against the Israeli home front. Hizbullah invested most of its efforts in assembling an extensive missile system, including rockets with ranges of over 100 km, under the assumption that Israel would not conduct significant ground operations south of the Litani River. Most of the organization's operational mass was concentrated in this area.

From the very beginning of the fighting, Hizbullah maintained a continuous bombardment of Israeli territory in order to wear down the Israeli home front. As Hizbullah had predicted, the IDF countered with massive airpower. Only a few ground-based operations were conducted, and primarily close to the border. At the same time, a number of weak points in Hizbullah's operational preparations surfaced. The first was the IDF's success in damaging its medium and long-range rocket systems.

The destruction of Hizbullah's Zelzal rockets in Beirut in the first hours of fighting appears to have been especially painful.

Report: Dozens dead in Syrian chemical weapons experiment

Dozens of Syrian military officers and Iranian engineers were killed about two months ago in an a chemical weapons accident, Jane's Magazine reported Monday, revealing new details on the incident which took place in a secret weapons facility. According to the report by the British magazine, the explosion occurred early in the morning on July 26, in a factory in the city of Halab, as the officers were attempting to mount a chemical warhead with mustard gas on a Scud-C missile.

A fire which started in the missile's engine led to an explosion near a storage location of chemical substances. The blast spread lethal chemical agents, including mustard gas, VX gas and sarin nerve gas, which are considered extremely toxic and are banned for use according to international treaties. Jane's Magazine reports that the explosion killed 15 Syrian officers and dozens of Iranian engineers who were in the facility. Dozens of people were injured. The incident was reported at the time by Syria's official news agency, but the report only included information on the Syrian casualties and did not mention the Iranian representatives.

The Syrian report also claimed that the explosion was caused by a "heat wave" in the country, although the blast took place at around 4:30 am, and that the Syrian government rejected the possibility of sabotage.

According to the British magazine, the facility where the accident took place was built as part of a cooperation agreement signed between Syria and Iran in 2005. The joint activity included technological supply and assistance from Syria to Iran.

The announcement of the upcoming message came as al-Qaida released a new video in which bin Laden's deputy, Ayman al-Zawahri, boasted that the United States was being defeated in Afghanistan, Iraq and other fronts.

Speakers in the video promised more fighting in Afghanistan, North Africa and Sudan's Darfur region.

Al Hamed vessel visited Tartous monthly with "cement"

Records on a North Korean ship docked in Syria have been altered. Online databases tracking a ship reportedly flying a North Korean flag that docked in Syria have changed their records following a report in The Washington Post linking the alleged Israeli air strike in Syria to a North Korean shipment. The mysterious Al Hamed vessel visited Tartous monthly with "cement". Why is this important to know? As Captain's Quarters puts it,

"...the North Korean ship that purportedly reflagged itself as South Korean to evade Western investigators disappeared from view after the Israeli strike on Syria last week. The Syrians Don't Know What They Saw

The Syrians don't know what they saw Wednesday night on the radar screens and what they fired at. Israel has no interest in helping them understand what they saw. It is reasonable to assume, however, that the Syrians will not turn the recent aerial incident into a catalyst for launching hostile activities against Israel. The Syrians cannot say with certainty or prove that there was an aircraft, and they are also unable to describe the route used by that unidentified object.

This happens often as part of intelligence efforts: One side spots something and then sends up a trial balloon via the media in order to be able to complete the missing details through the response. This is probably why the IDF Spokesperson's Office says, "We do not comment on reports of this nature." Whether the Syrians saw something or not, whether it was an Israeli aircraft or something belonging to another country - there is no reason why Israel should help the Syrians in their interpretation efforts, helping them improve their aerial defense system.

What is really worrying is the Syrian information minister's declaration that his country "would find the way to respond to the Israeli infiltration." It is possible that Syria is now looking for an excuse to initiate an escalation with Israel. However, it appears that Syria still does not view itself as ready for an all-out war with Israel.

MK Yuval Steinitz (Likud), who heads the Knesset Subcommittee on the Home Front's Preparedness, slammed the defense minister's decision. "The decision not to hand out masks so as not to upset the Syrians reminds me of Moshe Dayan's unfortunate decision not to call up the reserves so as not to upset the Syrians and the Egyptians on the eve of the Yom Kippur War," he said. Hizbullah is buying up large tracts of land owned by Christians and other non-Shias in southern Lebanon as the militant group rebuilds its defenses in preparation for a new war with Israel. The forested wadis, or valleys, north of the Litani River make ideal terrain for Hizbullah's brand of guerrilla warfare and, just 10 miles from the border, are within rocket range of Israeli cities. "Christians and Druze are selling land and moving out, while the Shia are moving in. There is an extraordinary demographic shift taking place," said Edmund Rizk, a former Christian MP for the area. Wealthy Shia businessman Ali Tajeddine, who made his fortune trading diamonds in Sierra Leone, is said to be using Iranian funds to buy land from destitute villagers at up to four times the going rate.

Critics fear a grand scheme to create a strip of Shia-controlled land connecting southern Lebanon to Hizbullah's other power center in the Bekaa Valley. "It is part of Hizbullah's plan to create a state within a state," said Walid Jumblatt, a Druze leader. He also pointed to the four-lane road being built to connect the Hizbullah stronghold of Nabatiye in the south to the western Bekaa. Banners openly proclaim the source of the road's funding: "510 km of new roads paid for by the Iranian Organization for Sharing in the Building of Lebanon."

The latest official IDF intelligence branch assessment, adopted by the Israeli government, is that Syria is not planning to attack Israel. At least not in the coming months.

The accelerated preparations for war undertaken by the Syrian army recently, according to the assessment, are not aimed at launching an offensive, but rather, stem from fears in Damascus that the IDF plans to attack Syria.

As proof of this, IDF intelligence researchers point to the fact that the Syrian army has not fundamentally changed its deployment, which is still mostly defensive, vis-a-vis Israel.However, intelligence officials estimate that there is still a risk of a war breaking out even in the near future as a result of a wrong estimate (here or there) regarding the other side's intentions - a "miscalculation" as it is referred to by IDF intelligence officers. This is why Prime Minister Ehud Olmert made sure to declare Wednesday that he was not seeking war.

This is the official assessment. Yet this is not the complete picture. The truth is that there is no certainty within Israel's intelligence community that Syria is not planning to initiate a military confrontation with Israel. Quite a few researchers in the IDF intelligence branch and Mossad suspect that Syria is waiting for a convenient point in time - which is not necessarily in the distant future.

Our Washington sources report that ahead of the session, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice appealed to a number of European and Asian governments for contingents to bolster the UN force patrolling South Lebanon. None refused outright, only explaining they were short of
military manpower. This would also apply to the United States.

DEBKAfile's intelligence sources expect the ructions already gripping Lebanon to escalate from mid-July and climax in the first week of September, when the pro-Syrian president Emil Lahoud ends his tenure. Damascus, Tehran and Hizballah are aiming to bring down the pro-Western Fouad Siniora’Äôs government in Beirut or at least shrink its jurisdiction to a number of neighborhoods in the capital similar to Nouri al Maliki’Äôs administration in Baghdad.

Word has reached Riyadh from Damascus indicating that president Bashar Assad plans to use the showdown in Lebanon to ignite war clashes in all of Lebanon and against Israel on two fronts, the Golan and the Gaza Strip.

A Qatari newspaper, Al Watan, reported Friday that Syria is making concrete preparations for war with Israel, saying that the Syrian government has removed the Government and State Archives from the Damascus area. According to the paper, this move indicates preparations for war. Syrian parliament member Muhammad Habash confirmed on Al-Jazeera Arabic world news satellite TV last week that Syria is indeed engaged in active preparations for a war with Israel. The conflict, said the Syrian MP, is expected to break out during the summer months.

The Post cites Israeli-army sources “dismiss[ing] speculation that the drills were connected to an attack on Iran.” Reuters quotes an Israeli military spokeswoman saying the exercise was “part of a multi-year working plan involving joint flights for the purpose of mutual learning,” as well as an Israeli military source claiming the exercises were “unconnected to the current situation in the country.”

The exercises, in any case, sparked interest and were reported in Arab media. They also manifest the fact that, despite reported Bush-administration disgruntlement with Israeli military capabilities after the summer 2006 war in Lebanon, U.S.-Israeli military cooperation continues at a high level.

One doesn’t have to be a conspiracy-monger to wonder if there’s some connection between the U.S.-Israeli air drills and the Ofek-7’s launch. It took, however, the Israeli scoop site DEBKAfile, which purports to have inside security information and not infrequently turns out to be right, to connect these dots in a single article. “DEBKAfile’s military sources report,” the article says, “that the [Ofek-7] launching was part of a seven-day US-Israeli air exercise taking place this week in the Negev [desert] which, though presented officially as a routine practice, reflects wide expectations of a Middle East war this summer.”

Get a load of this talkspeak. A member of the Syrian parliament, Muhammad Habash, confirmed on Tuesday that his country was actively preparing for war with Israel, expected to break out in the summer, Israel Radio reported. In an interview with Al Jazeera, Habash said it was no secret that the Syrian military was arming itself for the upcoming confrontation with the IDF. He also claimed that the Israeli government was the one that wanted the war so that it could survive politically. Shyeah, riiiight.

I would have felt better had Habesh any guts to mention the goals of Hizbullah as part of an axis of terror which also includes Syria, Iran and Hamas, to set the region in flames and dictate the Israeli-palestinian agenda. Apparently, Arabs are too busy launching attacks and berating Israel and Jews for defending themselves against Arab/Muslim butchers to take much notice.
The fact that Jews in the British Mandate have been attacked by Arabs since the early 1900's - was not because of any territorial dispute - but just because Jews existed.

Maybe Islam is the root of the problem. The fact that currently there are 30 conflicts around the world and 25 of them involve Islam proves my point.

Israel resorted to military action last July largely because the UN did nothing to implement Security Council Resolutions 1559 and 1680 which made clear that Hizbullah should disband and be disarmed. Israel was left to fend for itself after Hizbullah crossed a UN-demarcated line, killed three Israeli soldiers, and kidnapped two soldiers it still has not released. The end of the war led to the passage of Security Council Resolution 1701, which called for an international embargo to prevent weaponry from entering Lebanon, a provision which has not been met. It has been widely reported that arms from Syria are being smuggled into Lebanon. The international community should agree to follow up Resolution 1701 with one involving the deployment of UN peacekeeping troops on the Syrian-Lebanese border.
