As Israel, Hamas and Hezbollah negotiate the release of Israeli soldiers captured in terror attacks, Hamas is sowing the seeds of the next kidnapping. Hamas TV is broadcasting a video clip showing Hamas training exercises that include the simulated kidnapping of an Israeli soldier. The segment includes an Israeli tank exploding, followed by images of a Hamas fighter carrying and running with a captured Israeli soldier.

A truck loaded with four tons of explosives blew up on the Palestinian side of the Erez crossing Thursday in Gaza. IDF sources said the truck was supposed to explode on the Israeli side, but must have blown up too early either due to a technical problem or because it ran into poles near the crossing. The Israel Defense Forces believes that the failed attack was part of an attempt to abduct IDF soldiers. The truck blew up about 100 meters from the Israeli side of the crossing. Islamic Jihad released a video of the suicide bomber, Ibrahim Nasser, 23, showing a young bearded man in uniform, smiling as he brandished a Kalashnikov rifle. Palestinians also fired mortar rounds at Israeli positions during the attack, which occurred while the area was covered by dense fog. The explosion left a 12-meter-wide hole and shattered windows at nearby Moshav Netiv Ha'asara.

Hizbullah has in its possession the bodies of abducted Israel Defense Forces soldiers and has attempted to use them as part of prisoner swap negotiations, the group's leader Hassan Nasrallah said Wednesday. IDF soldiers Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev were abducted by Hizbullah militants in a cross-border raid into Israel that sparked the Second Lebanon War in 2006.

The anniversary of the kidnapping of Israeli soldiers Ehud Goldwasser, Eldad Regev, and Gilad Shalit will be marked in New York City on Monday with a rally organized by the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations outside the UN at noon. On April 12, the Senate unanimously approved a resolution that condemns not only Hamas and Hizbullah but also "Iran and Syria for their ongoing support of Hizbullah and Hamas." It demands that the captives be immediately and unconditionally released and that "Hizbullah and Hamas accede to the most basic standards of humanitarian conduct and allow prompt access to the Israeli captives by competent medical personnel and representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross." The accused terrorists detained at Guantanamo Bay have been regularly visited by the Red Cross and are provided with lawyers and copies of the Koran. Somehow the concern about the conditions under which Goldwasser and Shalit and Regev are being held is less audible than the fuss about Guantanamo.

BBC correspondent Alan Johnston, 45, was released Wednesday by his kidnappers in Gaza after nearly four months in captivity. He said it was "fantastic" to be free after an "appalling experience." Johnston was abducted on March 12 by the Army of Islam, a group dominated by Gaza's powerful Dugmush clan. "The last 16 weeks have been the very worst of my life," Johnston said. "I was in the hands of people who were dangerous and unpredictable." Johnston said he fell ill from the food he was served. He described his experience of captivity as "occasionally quite terrifying."

The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) uncovered a Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) cell that had planned a series of attacks, including bombing a Modi'in synagogue and kidnapping U.S. citizens in the West Bank, according to information made public Tuesday. PFLP member Ramzi Sharona, who had been illegally working as a laborer in Modi'in, said he intended to plant an explosive device in a nearby synagogue, blow it up, and then flee to Ramallah. In addition, the cell was planning to kidnap U.S. civilians in order to swap them for jailed PFLP leader Ahmed Sa'adat, shoot motorists on a Modi'in road, and attack Israel Defense Forces soldiers in Hebron.

Mohammed Sweirki, 25, who served in the Fatah-linked Presidential Guard, was kidnapped Sunday by Hamas gunmen and pushed off the roof of a 15-story building to his death in Gaza City. In Rafah, hundreds of rival gunmen took up positions on street corners and rooftops, pounding each other's positions with rocket-propelled grenades and machineguns. Of the more than 39 Palestinians wounded in the fighting, at least nine were in critical condition, hospital officials said.

In Saturday's attack, four gunmen drove a white jeep with press markings in English and Arabic to a fence on the Gaza-Israel border, then broke through on foot and attacked a guard tower in a failed attempt to capture a soldier. Islamic Jihad spokesman Abu Ahmad denied the group had put the press markings on the jeep, but AP photos clearly show the markings on the jeep when the attack was underway.

Palestinian gunmen from Gaza, using an armored vehicle labeled "TV," crashed through the Gaza-Israel border fence at Kissufim crossing on Saturday. One of the Palestinian gunmen was shot dead in a gun battle with Israeli soldiers. A spokesman for Islamic Jihad, Abu Ahmed, said three of the four gunmen had returned to Gaza, and the intention had been to try to capture an Israeli soldier.

The European Parliament Thursday added its voice to international calls for the release of BBC reporter Alan Johnston, 44, who was kidnapped in Gaza on March 12. The parliament called for the PA to "redouble its efforts to secure Mr. Johnston's speedy release...and to ensure that all attacks against journalists and other civilians are investigated thoroughly and those responsible brought to justice."

Syrian group says holding missing Israeli soldier

A Syrian guerilla organization, the Committees for the Liberation of the Golan Heights, says it is holding missing Israeli soldier, Guy Hever, missing since August 1997. The authenticity of the statement was still unclear.

Hamas terror cell planning abduction arrested

It has now been released for publication that in a joint IDF, ISA and Israeli Police operation in October 2006, security forces arrested the members of a Hamas terror cell which was in the advanced stages of planning the abduction of an Israeli in the Jerusalem area. The cell, which was being directed by senior Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip, was planning to use the abduction in order to negotiate the release of Hamas prisoners. The members of the cell had already acquired weapons using money from the Gaza Strip, and were planning to recruit more members, including a driver from Jerusalem.

The men arrested are:

* The head of the cell, Fahres Awad Abed Al Fatah Quwassma, is a 30 year-old resident of Hebron. Quwassma told investigators that he had established contact with a Hamas terrorist from the Gaza Strip during his previous period of imprisonment and had begun planning the abduction with him. Following his release from prison in May 2006, he was contacted by the terrorists in the Gaza Strip and was instructed to recruit a cell to carry out the abduction.

* Hamza Ibrahim Moussah Zahran, is a 26 year-old Hamas terrorist from the Ramallah area. Zahran was recruited by Quwassma and was tasked with acquiring weapons and recruiting additional members to the cell.

* Iyad Feisel Diab Mansour, is a 26 year-old Hamas terrorist from the Ramallah area.
