Dogs and Islam

FrontPageMagazine interviews the renowned Robert Spencer on the barbaric abuse of dogs that is widespread throughout the Muslim world. What is going on here exactly? An excerpt from the article, Islam’s Animal Gulag, with Robert Spencer hosted by Jamie Glazov, managing editor of FrontPageMagazine:

FP: What is the basis for the prohibition [of keeping a dog as a pet]. Is it in the Qur'an? In Muhammad's life?

Spencer: It comes from Muhammad’s statements in the hadith collections that Muslims generally consider most reliable. The basis of the idea of impurity of dogs comes from his statements such as: “Angels do not enter a house wherein there is a dog or a picture of a living creature,” (Bukhari 4.54.448), “Prayer is annulled by a dog, a donkey and a woman (if they pass in front of the praying people)” (Bukhari 1.9.490), and “If a dog drinks from the utensil of anyone of you it is essential to wash it seven times” (Bukhari 1.4.173). He declared: “Whoever keeps a dog, one Qirat of the reward of his good deeds is deducted daily, unless the dog is used for guarding a farm or cattle” – or, in some variants of this “guarding sheep or farms” – or, presumably, Iranian Presidents [since Ahmadinejad owns four guard dogs] -- “or for hunting” (Bukhari 3.39.515).

There are ahadith also depicting Muhammad as saying, “Were dogs not a species of creature I should command that they all be killed; but kill every pure black one” (Sunan Abu Dawud 16.2839). Another notes that Muhammad “ordered the killing of dogs,” again making an exception for “the keeping of dogs for hunting and (the protection of) herds” (Muslim 10.3814).

FP: How are dogs treated in Sunni Islam? Can you tell some stories of abuse?

Spencer: Sunni Islam also regards dogs as unclean. The Shafi’i school of Islamic jurisprudence stipulates that “something that becomes impure by contact…with something from dogs or swine does not become pure except by being washed seven times, one of which (recommended not to be the last) must be with purifying earth” (‘Umdat al-Salik e14.7). At one Sunni website a mufti evaluates the ahadith about dogs and concludes: “In the light of these Ahaadith and other narrations it is not permissible to keep dogs as pets. The household is deprived of the Mercy of Allah Taãla.”

Stories of abuse, however, are hard to come by, because this is simply not a problem that generally registers in Islamic countries.

News that live animals had been thrown to their deaths from a bridge reached the public last month when Animal Control Solutions, a government contractor, was accused of inhumanely killing some 80 dogs and cats seized from three housing projects in the town of Barceloneta. A half dozen survived the fall of at least 50 feet.

The AP probe, which included visits to two sites where animals were slaughtered, found the inhumane killings were far more extensive than that one incident. The AP saw and was told about a scale and brutality far beyond even what animal welfare activists suspected, stretching over the last eight years.

A $22.5 million lawsuit against Animal Control Solutions and city officials - including those who helped round up the animals - was filed on behalf of 16 Barceloneta families whose dogs or cats were seized under rules prohibiting pets at the city projects. The animals' deaths show "a cold and depraved heart and has stirred public outrage around the whole world," the lawsuit says.

The pet disposal scandal adds to Puerto Rico's poor reputation for treatment of animals. Cockfighting is legal, with matches shown on television. One of the island's beaches is known as Dead Dog Beach - a place where teenagers drive over live puppies sealed in bags or cruelly kill them with machetes and arrows, according to animal welfare groups that photographed the atrocities.

Hamas TV show abuses animals to teach kids lesson

The latest episode of a popular Hamas children’s TV show features its main character cruelly swinging cats by their tails and throwing stones at caged lions in the Gaza zoo.

The episode of Tomorrow’s Pioneers features a costumed adult playing Nahool the Bee at the zoo, tormenting domestic cats and lions. The lions become so enraged by the abuse that one of them repeatedly tries to attack Nahool.

Every time Nahool swings a cat by the tail, an act that can cause permanent physical and behavior problems for the animal, children can be heard bursting into laughter.Ironically, the decision to terrorize and inflict physical pain on real animals in the episode is an attempt to teach children not to abuse animals. When the program returns to the studio, the children in the audience criticize Nahool for his behavior, and he is told never to do it again.

NOTE: Nahool is the character that replaced Farfur, the Mickey Mouse clone that was killed off in response to widespread international outrage that a knockoff of the lovable Walt Disney character was teaching children about hatred and world Islamic domination.

Off-topic: More animal cruelty

I wasn't going to mention this story which I have been following, but if you want to read more animal cruelty, read about Michael Vicks, the NFL Atlanta Falcons quarterback who was indicted this week on a federal conspiracy charge for his alleged role in a dog fighting venture that operated from a Virginia property that he owned. If any of the following is true, may his throwing arm wither and fall from his body. From the Smoking Gun:

The 27-year-old Vick, whose nickname is listed as "Ookie" in the indictment, allegedly established the Bad Newz Kennels in early-2001 in Smithfield, Virginia. It was this property, for which Vick paid $34,000, that the star athlete and his codefendants used as the "main staging area for housing and training the pit bulls involved in the dog fighting venture and hosting dog fights." According to prosecutors, Vick and his cohorts began purchasing pit bull puppies in late-2001 and would eventually "sponsor" individual dog fights with purses as high as $26,000. In the indictment's most harrowing parts, federal investigators describe what happened to some Bad Newz Kennels dogs that either lost matches or did not perform well in test fights. After a March 2003 loss by a female pit bull, codefendant Purnell Peace, "after consulting with Vick," electrocuted the animal. In April, prosecutors allege, Vick, Peace, and Quanis Phillips, "executed approximately 8 dogs that did not perform well in 'testing' sessions." These animals, the indictment claims, were killed "by various methods, including hanging, drowning, and slamming at least one dog's body to the ground."

Radical Muslims Poaching Endangered Species to Fund Jihad

They behead infidels, and then chop off the rhino's and elephant's foot for trophies. They kill tigers and leopards, and blow up Buddhist statues. These are their contributions to civilization.

These are loathsome and detestable acts of depravity.

Radical Muslims in India are using the poaching of rare animals to fund the world wide Jihad. Targeted animals include endangered species such as elephants, rhinos and tigers. Elephant and rhino tusks can fetch tens of thousands of dollars on the black market, which in turn can purchase massive quantities of firearms and explosives to be sent to front line Jihadists in their war on civilization. Yet another example of the sheer depravity of our enemies.
