Anti-Semitism at the University of California, Irvine

Muslims around the world conveniently forget that Israel is a prosperous and civilized nation founded by legal land purchases and predicated on international law. Muslims choose to ignore the fact that Israel is a legitimate and sovereign nation, voted imprimatur into sovereignty and legitimacy by the United Nations.

Regardless of the facts, empirical historical and archaelogical evidence that Jews have righteously returned to their indigenous homeland, Muslims at the University of California, Irvine, specifically the Muslim Student Union (MSU), a virulently anti-Semitic and anti-American student group, hold several programs which unabashedly support terrorist groups and unjustly denounce Israel, America, and the Western world. MSU events have featured speakers like Norman Finkelstein, Ward Churchill, Muhammad al-Asi and Amir Abdel Malik Ali, and have had titles such as "Hamas: the People's Choice" and "Israel: The 4th Reich."

Out of all the MSU’s speakers, al-Asi has the most lurid personal history. A former Air Force Officer, al-Asi became radicalized by the 1979 Iranian Revolution, and is an avid admirer of the late Ayatollah Khomeini. In 1983, he was removed from his position at the Islamic Center in Washington D.C. for being too radical, and since then, he preaches his hateful message in front of the very same mosque to passers-by. Al-Asi also makes regular trips to Iran to meet hard-line officials, and as reported by the Washington Post, is under constant surveillance from the United State’s government.

Over the past several years there have been a growing number of reports from Jewish and non Jewish students at The University of California, Irvine (UCI) alleging anti-Semitism on campus and biased treatment by certain University officials. These allegations are summarized as follows:

1. Jewish students have been subject to physical and verbal harassment because they are Jewish and support Israel;

2. Hate speech, both direct and symbolic, is directed at Jews by speakers and demonstrators;

3. An annual week-long event sponsored by the Muslim Student Union is an anti-Semitic hate fest targeting Israel and Jews using lies and propaganda dating back to the anti-Semitism of the Middle Ages;

4. Speakers who are pro-Israel and/or those who condemn speakers who espouse anti-American and anti-Israeli views are subject to disruptive behavior by Muslim students and their supporters;

5. Jewish students claim they are subject to a hostile class environment by faculty members who adopt an anti-Israel bias;

6. Materials contained in certain Middle-East Studies courses are biased and are indicative of a “leftist” orthodoxy that characterizes this area of study;

7. The UCI administration is not responsive to complaints by Jewish students.

8. Jewish students complain of a “double standard” when the administration enforces campus rules and regulations.

Muslims also conveniently forget that those who have the privilege of living in the United States enjoy rights of Freedom of Speech under the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution as further interpreted by the United States Supreme Court.

Any proscription of speech or an attempt to force anyone to stop speaking as they choose, even if it is hate speech, is unacceptable.

Presidents and Chancellors of public colleges and universities have an obligation to establish an environment for education at their institutions; that the values of that institution in the search for truth should represent the values of our democratic society such as tolerance for a diversity of opinions and beliefs and respect for the individual.

Education at colleges and universities takes place both within the classroom and outside the classroom.

Therefore, student affairs administrators and academic administrators are not bystanders to the education process.

Administrators are also democracy’s guardians of acceptable behavior in the academy. This includes ensuring civil discourse within the academy.

Administrators must aggressively condemn behaviors, including speech that threaten an individual’s well being, denigrate an individual’s ethnic, religious, or racial identity, or blame a religious or ethnic group for criminal activity.

Public colleges and universities are a public trust and therefore must be held accountable to the public through the Board of Regents and the campus administration.

Citizens can also hold institutions accountable by supporting or withholding support for the University either through direct contributions and/or through the support or nonsupport of public funding measures.

Although the university has the moral obligation to speak out against hateful speech directed at a portion of the student body, they have made it clear they are going to avoid commenting on the issue or ensuring a safe campus environment. At the very least, administrators need to uphold the rights of all students and make certain civil liberties are maintained rather than selectively enforcing regulations.

Anti-Israel Week At The University Of Michigan

Anti-Racist Blog has alerted us that:

From February 11th-15th, organizers have planned "Palestine Awareness Week" events for The University of Michigan campus. The events at U of M are taking place at the same time as "Israel Apartheid Week" events at other colleges and universities internationally. Even though U of M's "Palestine Awareness Week" has a different name than "Israel Apartheid Week," the two are clearly related, as evidenced by the timing, and the agenda.

The aim of both is to demonize Israel, bash the Jewish State and its friend America, condone Palestinian terrorism, and provide a skewed view of reality and a total distortion of facts on the ground.

Readers of Anti-Racist Blog will remember that the student group Students Allied for Freedom and Equality (SAFE), which is the main sponsor of "Palestine Awareness week," openly condemns Israel while ignoring terrorist actions against the Jewish State.

Hate speech at University of California, Irvine

The Zionist Organization of America condemned the U.S. government's Office for Civil Rights on Wednesday for failing to protect Jewish students it says have been subject to a series of anti-Semitic provocations on the campus of the University of California, Irvine. The ZOA alleged that Muslim students on campus staged anti-Semitic speeches, distributed Judeophobic literature, and used intimidation tactics against Jewish students. The university's failure to take disciplinary action constitutes discrimination against Jewish students, the ZOA charges.The Office of Civil Rights, which operates under the auspices of the Department of Education, said in a report released last week that some Muslim student activities were offensive to Jewish students.

Nadia Abu El-Haj is granted tenure

As unbelievable as it is to we who know the truth, Barnard College just granted tenure to a palestinian archeologist who denies the Jewish presence in Israel before the 20th century. From The Chronicle:

Barnard College just announced that Nadia Abu El-Haj, an anthropologist whose tenure bid has been the subject of online debate for weeks, has been promoted to the rank of associate professor.

Jewish Professor Defiant in Face of Anti-Semitic Vandalism

Columbia University professor Elizabeth Midlarsky responded to recent acts of anti-Semitism directed against her by upping the ante. With the help of a campus rabbi, she affixed a mezuzah to her office doorway. The combined act of biblical commandment, Jewish pride and defiance came at the end of a Monday morning press conference called by Columbia's Teachers College Jewish Association, which Midlarsky serves as faculty advisor. At the event, the organization called attention to a spate of anti-Semitic and racist incidents at the Manhattan school, including the discovery last week of a swastika spray-painted across Midlarsky's office door.

Lee Bollinger, Tough Guy

Lee Bollinger, the fraud. Via WSJ:

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has his doubts about whether the Holocaust happened. He thinks the Jewish state should be wiped off the map. His regime funnels sophisticated munitions to Shiite militias in Iraq, who use them to kill American soldiers.

Oh, and by the way, his regime also executes homosexuals for the crime of being themselves. Maybe if Columbia University President Lee Bollinger were aware of the latter fact he would reconsider his invitation to the Iranian president to speak on his campus next Monday.

Mr. Bollinger, notoriously, voted in 2005 not to readmit an ROTC program to Columbia (absent from the university since 1969), ostensibly on the grounds of the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy regarding gay service members. Never mind that other upper-tier schools, including Princeton, Dartmouth, Cornell and the University of Pennsylvania all have ROTC programs. Never mind, too, that in 2003 the Columbia student body voted in favor of readmission by a 2-1 margin. In Mr. Bollinger's view, "the university has an obligation, deeply rooted in the core values of an academic institution and in First Amendment principles, to protect its students from improper discrimination and humiliation."

Mr. Bollinger's position might at least be coherent were he not now invoking the same principles to justify his invitation to Mr. Ahmadinejad, whose offenses to gay rights and any other form of human dignity considerably exceed the Pentagon's. After promising that he would introduce the president "with a series of sharp challenges" -- including Iran's "reported support" for international terrorism -- he went on to say that "it is a critical premise of freedom of speech that we do not honor the dishonorable when we open the public forum to their expression."

We're all for free speech and the vigorous exchange of intellectual differences, though we don't see how Mr. Bollinger can be, given his decision to discriminate against young men and women who seek to make careers in the military. We also don't quite see how the right to free speech -- a freedom Mr. Ahmadinejad conspicuously denies his own people -- is tantamount to the right to an illustrious pedestal. Columbia is a selective institution in its choice of students as well as speakers; its choices confer distinction on those whom it selects. Were it otherwise, Mr. Ahmadinejad would surely have better uses for his time.

We will say this for Mr. Bollinger: The tough-guy act he promises for Monday's introduction will be something to watch. This time the irrepressible Mr. Ahmadinejad, we're sure, will bow his head in awe.

Mahmoud Admadinejad and Lee Bollinger, two disturbed egos in search of a legacy

Kudos to NYC officials for denying the hideous misshapen puke, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who, with typical Muslim hubris, asked permission to lay a wreath at the World Trade Center site when he comes to New York City next week.

Everyone knows that Ahmadinejad would only be mocking the Americans murdered by his Muslim brethren, and that his mocking act of laying a wreath would really be to honor the dead Muslims who perpetrated the greatest act of war on American soil since the Japs bombed Pearl Harbor in 1941.

Even worse is the fact that Ahmadinejad is coming to NY to address the UN General Assembly, and worst of all, is the fact that Lee Bollinger, the president of Columbia University, has invited Ahmadinejad to speak at Columbia. Both events are scheduled to take place on Monday, September 24, 2007.

Ironically, Lee Bollinger withdrew an invitation to Ahmadinejad in September 2006, after the dean of Columbia's school of international and public affairs, Lisa Anderson, had invited Ahmadinejad to speak at the World Leader's Forum, a year-long program that aims to unite "renowned intellectuals and cultural icons from many nations to examine global challenges and explore cultural perspectives." Bollinger said he canceled Ahmadinejad's invitation because he couldn't be certain it would "reflect the academic values that are the hallmark of a University event such as our World Leaders Forum."

We mustn't forget Iran’s support of terrorism, including their enabling many of the 9/11 hijackers to pass through Iran while they were planning the 9/11 attacks. In addition, we mustn't forget about the investment, by proxy, of billions of dollars being made by American retirement funds into Iran and how that money is being used to kill our troops in Iraq.

As Jason Mattera, of Young America's Foundation says, since Ahmadinejad is so interested in America, he should study the Bill of Rights, especially Amendments 1 and 2. And may a bullet finds its way into Ahmadinejad's frontal lobe post haste.

In the meantime, Former Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani, who is running for president, said in a statement:

Under no circumstances should the N.Y.P.D. or any other American authority assist President Ahmadinejad in visiting Ground Zero. This is a man who has made threats against America and Israel, is harboring Bin Laden’s son and other al Qaeda leaders, is shipping arms to Iraqi insurgents and is pursuing the development of nuclear weapons. Assisting Ahmadinejad in touring Ground Zero – hallowed ground for all Americans – is outrageous.

The Three Ex-Terrorists Speech at UC Irvine

Three former terrorists Walid Shoebat, Kamal Saleem and Zak Anani spoke last week to 1,300 people at the Orange County, California campus at UC Irvine. An excerpt from Lee Kaplan's The Three Ex-Terrorists Speech at UC Irvine:

Walid Shoebat then spoke about Western misperceptions of the roots of terrorism. He explained how in speaking abroad, from Chile to Mexico to the UK, he was told terrorism is the result of poverty and bemoaned the equivalency of the West with acts of aggression based on concepts of jihad that ignore historical and social realities in the Middle East. He explained how what the world is experiencing today is the old Islamic Caliphate of the Ottoman Empire, trying once again to rise to world dominance. He cautioned that the West is not recognizing the threat to its own civilization as news agencies like Reuters declare Hamas “a viable organization,” and explained how Al Qaeda was founded by Abdullah Azzam, a Palestinian from Jenin.

“Al Qaeda is the same as Hamas,” he warned. He then gave the audience, mostly college students, a history lesson of Arab Muslim alliances with the Nazis during World War II. He criticized college professors who do not teach their students the true history of the Middle East which promotes false notions about why America is under attack.

Shoebat knows his stuff. His historical information about the PLO was dead on. And he differentiated for the students that part of the PLO terrorism mechanism is made up of Christian Arabs of the PFLP. He praised Israel for building 35 universities for the Palestinians and how a family member told him that life in the West Bank under Israeli occupation was the golden age he wished he could return to and how life under the Palestinian Authority was hell. When asked by Walid if his family member preferred there not be a Palestinian state, he replied absolutely not. When asked why not, the family member replied, “We don’t want the Jews lording over us.”

Shoebat then explained how the root of the Israeli Palestinian conflict is not about land, but in fact about Jew hatred. “I hate terrorism, he said, I will speak against it all of my life” and questioned why the West found it acceptable that while Israel allows 1.2 Muslim Arabs to live as equal citizens in Israel, the West accepts the Palestinian idea that a Palestinian state must be Jew free. Citing Arab media polls, he explained how western leaders keep speaking about “moderate Islam” when in fact such polls show the majority of the Islamic world in favor of violent attacks on the West in the name of jihad and cautioned against a precipitous US withdrawal from Iraq. He then warned about the Muslim Students Union on 150 campuses in America, financed and led by Saudi Arabia that he considers a subversive jihadist movement that wants to indoctrinate the next generations of young Americans and urged the audience to resist its influence in America. He admonished the audience to “Never give in” and stand for appeasement in place of pro-actively fighting jihad in America.

A Victory Against Campus Extremism

An excellent article about a swift kick in the teeth to the Jew-hating parasites that thrive on revisionism and mendacity on American campuses, by Lee Kaplan via FrontPage Magazine:

In a powerful blow to the anti-Israel movement on American campuses, the University of California at Riverside has canceled the Fifth Annual International Al Awda Conference that was scheduled to take place there on the weekend of May 24-26th. This marks only the second time that an American university has declined unconditionally to host an anti-Jewish hate fest that masquerades as an educational event about the Middle East (the other campus being Rutgers University in New Jersey in 2003). Such a cancellation comes on the heels of a new ruling by the US Civil Rights Commission that anti-Semitism on campuses has been masquerading as discussion of the Middle East.

Al Awda’s conference was set to be a training and strategy session for boycotting American and Israeli Jewish businesses -- and even some American Jews -- and for aiding the goal of extremists like Hamas to destroy Israel. Like Hamas, Al Awda’s motto has always been “from the river to the sea,” meaning the organization favors not a peaceful two-state solution in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but the ultimate destruction of Israel and its Jewish and Christian population. Indeed, Al Awda’s founder once called Jews who live in Israel “a disease” and the group calls the founding of the Jewish state a “catastrophe”(al Nakba in Arabic).

At UC Riverside, this campaign of demonizing has come to a crashing halt. According to Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs James Sandoval, student organizers advised him “without explanation” that the event was being canceled. While Sandoval maintained that the cancellation of the event was the decision of the student organizers that included the Students for Justice in Palestine and Muslim Students Union at UC Riverside, both International Solidarity Movement-affiliated groups, the UC Riverside administration deserves praise for setting up ground rules that obviously made the event too risky for the organizers to conduct on campus.

Al-Awda has issued a press release announcing a change in venue. The convention will now be held at Embassy Suites Hotel - Anaheim South, 11767 Harbor Boulevard, Garden Grove, CA 92840. The convention will take place on the May 25-27 memorial day week-end.

Al-Awda explained that the new location was required because “unacceptable conditions were demanded by certain UCR administrators well after they had approved the venue.” Most outrageous for Al-Awda was that “the university administrators insisted that Zionists be allowed to attend the convention, and that they film the convention and its participants, a remarkable attempt at intimidation.” That the organization considers the mere presence of “Zionists” a scandalous violation of its rights speaks volumes about the anti-Semitic prejudices of the organization.

Among the confirmed convention speakers are:

Dr. Jamal Zahalka, new leader of Balad (National Democratic Assembly, al-Tajamu' al-Watani al-Dimuqrati) who will discuss the current situation of Palestinians living in the areas of their country occupied in 1948 and in the context of the persecution of Dr. Azmi Bishara, former leader of Balad.

Leila Al-Arian, journalist, daughter of political prisoner Sami Al-Arian.

Dr. Naseer Aruri, former member of The Palestine National Council.

Elias Rashmawi, National Coordinator National Council of Arab Americans.

The above guests show no shortage of evidence for the group’s extremism. Among the attendees scheduled to appear at its forthcoming conference are supporters of Hamas, Hezbollah and other terrorist organizations. One participant, Leila Al-Arian, is the daughter of convicted Palestine Islamic Jihad operative Sami Al-Arian, whom Al-Awda describes as a “political prisoner.” Al-Arian was convicted of murdering over 100 people as the American leader of Palestinian Islamic Jihad, some of his victims being Americans. Other evidence includes poetry on the Web by an international Al Awda leader exhorting murder and suicide bombings. On its affiliated websites, Al-Awda also promotes not only a boycott by the Arabs of Israeli businesses, but American firms simply because they have Jewish executives. American firms boycotted include Coca Cola, Home Depot, Blockbuster and Starbucks among others. Al Awda attendees, although mostly Palestinian Arabs, also voice their unwavering international support for the Ba’ath Party that supplies terrorists who kill American soldiers in Iraq.

Write Vice chancellor James Sandoval (james.sandoval@ucr.edu) and Chancellor France Cordova (france.cordova@ucr.edu) and praise UC Riverside for doing the right thing once the truth emerged. Perhaps other universities will now finally catch on to the ISM and its affiliates like Al Awda. At the same time, get on the phone and send emails to the corporate offices of Hilton Hotel Corporation and the Mayor of Garden Grove and advise them the same type of boycott as this one against Jews planned to be hosted at Embassy Suites can also be done to the Hilton Hotel chain for encouraging such a Jewish hate-fest.

This Al Awda conference should be canceled--period. If UC Riverside can do it, so can Hilton Hotels.

California's Anti-Israel College

If you think anti-Israel activism and support for America's enemies is limited to major universities that receive large financial grants from Saudi royals and Gulf state sheiks, think again. A case in point is Diablo Valley College, a community college nestled in the sleepy bedroom community of Pleasant Hill, California.

As previously documented on FrontPage, the college is the home of Amer Araim, a San Francisco Bay Area imam who doesn't teach relevant facts or history in the classroom about Israel and who encourages his students to oppose Israel's existence as a Jewish state. In his course, “Politics of the Middle East,” which this reporter attended for an entire semester, Araim used as the basis for his classroom instruction such documents as the Hamas charter and the anti-Semitic forgery, the “Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion.” Araim doesn't say that this is where his information comes from. Instead, he lets his students think that he is teaching them current history and scholarly facts.

After the local Jewish community erupted in outrage over Araim’s in-class hatemongering, college administrators removed the course from the college’s catalog. However, the college did nothing to discourage the imam from his political sermonizing inside the classroom. In a telling glimpse into the misplaced priorities of at Diablo Valley College, Araim was awarded three new courses to teach.

According to Hillel President Wayne Firestone, in the last year divest-from-Israel campaigns have lost steam. "Overall divestment actions as a national movement are dead. They do pop up from time to time." "Divest from Israel in favor of what?" he asked. Hamas and Hizbullah? "It's a very negative message." Howard University President H. Patrick Swygert rejected a faculty resolution calling on the school to divest from companies doing business with Israel. "Without qualification, Howard University and I oppose any action calling for a divestiture," he stressed in a letter Thursday to the American Jewish Committee.

Teaching Law-Breaking at UC-Berkeley

The purpose of a law school is to teach law, not to provide a forum for political propaganda and illegal activity. That would likely come as news to the Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California at Berkeley. While the school is touted as one of the premier educational institutions in the country, it is affiliated with a law student association on the UC campus, Law Students for Justice in Palestine (LSJP), whose anti-Israel campaign actually advocates lawbreaking.

It is a measure of its prominence on campus that LSJP boasts its own website within the university’s official Boalt Hall website. The site states that the group was founded in 2001 with university approval for the purposes of promoting the Palestinian cause. Specifically, LSJP seeks to “infuse the current discourse with a legal analysis of the Palestinian struggle for liberation and the illegality of the state of Israel and its policies in their current form” and to “provide legal support to her sister organization on the main UC Berkeley campus, Students for Justice in Palestine, which has been participating in an ongoing campaign to demand that the UC system divest from Israel since February 6, 2001.”

This platform reflects poorly on the group’s commitment to jurisprudence. In the first place, the state of Israel was legally created by the United Nations in 1948, and the Jews who settled the state purchased their land in accordance with the law. Israeli law, moreover, has always required equal civil rights for all citizens of Israel, be they Muslims, Christians, Jews or others.
So the pointed purpose of the LSJP is to ignore the legal justifications for the Jewish state by having aspiring lawyers declare the Jewish state “illegal.”

More troubling is the other reason given for the existence of the LSJP: providing support for Students for Justice (SJP) in Palestine at UC Berkeley and its divestment campaign against Israel. SJP is one of the founding organizations of the anti-Israel propaganda group known as the International Solidarity Movement. The SJP website outlines the group’s demand for “the
full decolonization of all illegally held Palestinian lands.” It also calls for the “end of the Israeli occupation of the Gaza, Strip, the West Bank and East Jerusalem.”

On its website, the SJP clearly states that it encourages “civil disobedience” and divestment from the state of Israel, both of which are illegal acts. It should come as no surprise, then, that in 2002 radicals from SJP unlawfully stormed a building on campus where Jewish students were memorializing the Holocaust. SJP’s divestment campaign is likewise of dubious legality. Divesting from Israel is actually part of the Arab League boycott of Israel and, it might be argued, is a violation of the Logan Act.

One might think that a respectable law school would be keen to distance itself from student groups more committed to radical political agendas than to legal precedent. UC Berkley’s continued association with Law Students for Justice in Palestine speaks volumes about its inverted priorities.

The enemy within: Balad MK to speak at Israel Apartheid Week in Canada

MK Jamal Zakhalka (Balad) intends to participate in aninternational conference in Montreal entitled IsraeliApartheid Week, Army Radio reported on Tuesday. The Israeli Arab parliamentarian is currently making his way to Canada from Britain.

Jewish students will hold a counter-demonstration at Montreal campuses wearing blue-and-white shirts and will hold support rallies for Israel. Israeli Apartheid Week is a week-long series of eventsheld for the third year concurrently across various North American and European campuses. The event is organized by the Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights.

Event organizers describe Israel as a"settler-colonial state" in the mold of pre-reformed South Africa, arguing "that Israel is in fact an apartheid state, not just a belligerent occupying power."

The group's Web site describes its aim as pushing "forward the analysis of Israel as an apartheid state and to bolster support for the boycott, divestment, and sanctions campaign ... [demanding] full equalityfor Arab citizens of Israel, an end to the occupationand colonization of the West Bank and Gaza, and the implementation of the right of return and compensation for Palestinian refugees."

UC Irvine: Jewish Group to Investigate Alleged Anti-Semitic Incidents on Campus

The Hillel Foundation of Orange County announced this week that it will investigate "an alarming increase in anti-Semitism" at UC Irvine, a campus with a history of tension between Muslim and Jewish students. It is the second investigation in two years of alleged anti-Semitism at the campus.

On Jan. 31, Middle East scholar Daniel Pipes gave a talk at the University of California at Irvine titled, "The Threat to Israel's Existence." Roughly 100 members of UCI's Muslim Student Union occupied the central seats in the lecture hall, most wearing t-shirts reading "UC Intifada." A coordinated disruption began about five minutes into the talk. After the protesters exited the building while chanting slogans, student Reut Cohen followed the MSU students outside with her video camera running. Cohen's video of an organizer of the protest declaring: "It's just a matter of time before the State of Israel will be wiped off the face of the earth" immediately began circulating on the Internet and was aired on Fox News.

Who is Nadia Abu El-Haj?

She is a young Palestinian-American who is also Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Barnard. According to Jameel at The Muqata, its tenure time at Barnard College, and Nadia Abu El Haj is aspiring to attain the coveted Barnard professorship title in her field of Anthropology.

And the problem with that? In her doctoral thesis, which she morphed into a book, “Facts on the Ground: Archeological Practice and Territorial Self-Fashioning in Israeli Society.”, she denies that the Jewish people lived in Israel in ancient times.

This, coming from a so-called expert in anthropology. What is anthropology? One definition is the study of humanity - our physical characteristics as animals, and our unique non-biological characteristics we call culture. The subject is generally broken down into three subdisciplines: biological (physical) anthropology, cultural (social) anthropology, and archaeology.

According to Diana Muir, herself a 1975 graduate of Barnard College and an award-winning author,

Nadia Abu El-Haj pulls... off such a magic trick ... and .... is apparently worth the effort since denying that Jews are indigenous in Judea, [she] enables the redefinition of Israeli Jews as colonizers; foreign settlers with no legitimate right to the land. Or perhaps the post-modern rhetoric Abu El Haj employs with such facility is mere window dressing covering a far older
tradition, that of deploying the scholarly paraphernalia of footnotes and arcane language to make a political assertion appear as responsible scholarship. By either interpretation, Abu El Haj’s first book, Facts on the Ground; Archaeological Practice and Territorial Self-Fashioning in Israeli Society, derived from her doctoral thesis, is part of a wider intellectual effort intended to persuade the world that Israel is illegitimate, a European outpost with no indigenous roots in the Middle East, and, therefore, that the Israelis deserve to be driven out of Israel much as the French were driven from Algeria.

In agreement with Diana Muir are historians who are also appalled by Nadia Abu El-Haj's junk research, including Hugh Fitzgerald , of Jihad Watch, who wrote on FrontPage:

El-Haj, it seems, is not really an archeologist. There is not the slightest evidence that she has ever seen the work of Israeli archeologists, ever visited a dig, ever studied the history of the development of Israeli archeology, ever inquired as to how Israeli archeologists choose the sites they do choose for digs (do they get instructions from the Jewish Agency? The ZOA? The Mossad?). She appears not to have any record of the kinds of artifacts the Israeli archeologists, often working with Western, non-Israeli and non-Jewish colleagues, have discovered, catalogued, and meticulously studied.

With all the profound evidence that has been uncovered revealing Jewish life in Israel, which pre-dates Islam by several thousand years, documented and categorized here, it can be concluded that Nadia Abu El-Haj's fraudulent expertise is just a disguise for her true aim - to assassinate the character, people, culture, history, biography, agriculture, and architecture of the indigenous Jewish people of Israel.

Swastikas Appearing at UC Irvine

The University of California at Irvine (UCI) has become a center stage campus for anti-Israel and anti-Semitic speakers and demonstrations. The Irvine campus is not unique; they are just a leading campus which condones anti-Israel/anti-Semitic programming. Generally initiated by the campus Muslim student organizations or by the faculty members of the liberal arts departments, this kind of campus programming has been going on for a number of years. This situation has created an understandable amount of anguish and concern among Jewish students and it has even led to students choosing not to attend UCI.

The anti-Semitic speakers have used the "free speech" clause to justify their statements and it is simple for them to assert that what they are saying is “true.” In their view, "Israel and the Jews are the cause of the world's problems. The Muslims are just responding to the problems that the Jews and Israel have caused." This “logic” concludes that, "Muslims would not be forced to behave as they do if Israel and the Jews would stop provoking them."

Recently, several swastikas were found inscribed on the University of California's Irvine campus. Unfortunately, there are swastikas found on many American university campuses as well as high schools. The Jewish community is so used to this type of offensive occurrence that a newly drawn swastika incident usually doesn't get much attention unless the consequence reaches a significant level of outrage. This occurred several weeks ago -- on the first day of Ramadan. On that day, two Los Angeles area freeway overpasses were adorned with large swastikas and anti-Semitic slogans. That event got some coverage but was rapidly squelched and little attention was given to the fact that the incident just happened to coincide with the first day of Ramadan.

Folks, are you aware of the fact that CAIR, since its inception in 1994, had lost four of its officials, all linked to al-Qaeda and/or Hamas, all of which who’ve been either convicted or deported for their crimes? Or that one of its national advisory board members, Siraj Wahhaj, is on the list of potential co-conspirators to the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center?

Did you know that, just prior to 9/11, CAIR had solicited funds for two terrorist charities related to Al-Qaeda and Hamas, the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development and the Global Relief Foundation, both shut down after 9/11?

Or that CAIR’s Executive Director, Nihad Awad, in March of 1994, publicly stated his support for Hamas, saying that “after I researched the situation inside and outside Palestine, I am in support of the Hamas movement…”?

How about the fact that CAIR had criticized the prosecution of the spiritual leader of the ’93 bombing, Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman, listing the trial as an “incident of anti-Muslim bias and violence”?

Joe Kaufman knows and he writes about it today in Front Page. He teaches us that:

On June 5th, the Los Angeles chapter of CAIR sponsored a community town hall meeting at the Islamic Center of Irvine (ICOI), a mosque that propagates venomously anti-Semitic and anti-Israel rhetoric. In a Khutbah (sermon) given at the ICOI last month, entitled ‘The Abuse of a Religion to sustain a Racist State,’ the ICOI’s Director of Religious Affairs, Sadullah Khan, stated, “Jews who came [to Israel] brought with them a Western arrogance…” In the sermon, which is found on the ICOI website, Khan liberally quoted alleged neo-Nazi William Baker and described Zionism as “racist,” “diabolical” and “sinister.”

I've written in the past that CAIR was created by a front for overseas terrorist organizations called the Islamic Association for Palestine (IAP), whose founders include the number two leader in Hamas today, Mousa Abu Marzook, and the former North American head of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Sami Al-Arian?

This front, the Islamic Association for Palestine (IAP), had been found liable for the murder of a young American boy, David Boim, whose life was taken during a Hamas terror operation in Israel?

CAIR is currently the defendant in a lawsuit charging that the group played a role in the murder of former chief of the FBI’s counter-terrorism section, John O’Neill, on September 11th. Steven Pomerantz, former FBI assistant director and chief of the FBI's Counter-Terrorism Section, has stated, “CAIR, its leaders, and its activities effectively give aid to international terrorist groups”?

Moreso, does CAIR dare to answer why almost everyone on this page is a Muslim?
