Today In Jewish History: Eichmann captured in Argentina

Sponsored by Aish.com:
In 1960, Nazi leader Adolf Eichmann was captured in Argentina. Eichmann was in charge of implementing the "final solution" to exterminate Jews in the concentration camps. In one seven-week period alone, Eichmann transported 400,000 Hungarian Jews to the gas chambers. Eichmann was captured through the efforts of Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal and the Israeli Mossad (Secret Service). Eichmann was later put on trial in Israel, which was broadcast worldwide and featured the wrenching testimony of many Holocaust survivors. Eichmann was convicted and executed by hanging, the only capital punishment ever carried out in Israel. His body was cremated and ashes scattered at sea, so that no nation would serve as Eichmann's final resting place.

Jewish Leaders Welcome Interpol Most-Wanted Notice in Argentine Bombing

Via VOA:
Interpol has put five Iranians and a Lebanese man on its mostwanted list for the 1994 bombing of a Jewish community center in Buenos Aires. In Miami, VOA's Brian Wagner reports Jewish community leaders says the effort will pressure the Islamicgovernment to stop supporting terrorist activities. Delegates at Interpol's general assembly in Morocco approved theso-called "red notices" against the five Iranians and one Lebanese suspected in the attack. Argentine prosecutors are seeking Interpol's support in their probe into the bombing of a Jewish center in Buenos Aires, which killed 85 people and wounded more than 200 others. Argentine officials allege Iran ordered the attack and had Hezbollah militants carry it out.
Iran's response rejecting this decision is here.

13th Anniversary of the terrorist attack on the AMIA Jewish community center in Buenos Aires

Received by email:
-----------------------
Thirteen years ago, 18 July, at 9 A.M., a huge explosion rocked the city of Buenos Aires - the second murderous attack against Israeli and Jewish targets in Argentina. The attack was launched against the AMIA Jewish community center (Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina). The target of the previous attack, two years earlier, was the Israeli embassy.

In the attack 13 years ago, the Jewish community center was completely destroyed. A total of 85 people lost their lives, and hundreds more were injured.

The pain and sorrow we feel combines with the difficult feeling that those responsible for the attack, as with the previous attack, have not yet been brought to justice. But while they may remain anonymous, responsibility for the attack is not anonymous at all. After years of enquiries, the Argentinian investigative magistrate has concluded that it is Iran who is responsible for the attacks and for dispatching the murderers.

The government of Argentina even appealed to Interpol to issue arrest warrants for several suspects, and this appeal was approved by the Interpol Executive Committee.
