Stop Supplying Gasoline to Hamas!

The residents of Sderot, represented by Attorney Nitsana Darshan- Leitner, director of Shurat HaDin Israel Law Center (http://www.israellawcenter.org), have dispatched a series of letters to Israeli government, parliamentary, military and legal officials calling upon Israel to stop supplying petroleum to the Hamas-led Gaza Strip. The residents allege in their letters that Hamas siphons off more than half of the gasoline supplied from Israel for use in terror related activities including the daily Kassam rocket attacks, the incessant shootings at the farmers in the field, as well as the murderous attack last week on the Nachal Oz gasoline depot in which two Israeli petrol workers supplying the Gaza line were killed.

"Our lives are being physically threatened daily," said Mrs. Nechi Fendel, a mother of seven who moved to Sderot from Staten Island 15 years ago and works as a computer programmer in Nachal Oz. "For eight years now we are living with non-stop rocket attacks, day in and day out. The Hamas fires endlessly at our farmers in the field, at our schools and at our homes and rather than respond and protect us, our government continues to supply the terrorists with the very gas they need to make more missiles and launch them to try and kill our kids – it's a black comedy of the absurd!"

The Sderot residents allege that Hamas is siphoning off thousands of liters of Israeli supplied gasoline on the Gaza side of the Nachal Oz depot in order to create an artificial humanitarian crisis and bring world public opinion down on Israel. Israel, on its part, claims that it continues to supply the gasoline to Gaza so it can be used for humanitarian purposes such as hospitals, schools and a variety of critical and emergency services.

"Hamas can get petroleum from Egypt via Rafah or from other sources," said Attorney Nitsana Darshan-Leitner in sending the letters. "It makes no sense for Israel to continue to supply her enemies with fuel. In 2005 Israel "disengaged" from Gaza, with Israeli Jews paying a tremendous price in social and personal suffering as a result, so why are we continuing this charade? Either we are disengaged or not!"

If the residents demand to shut down the Nachal Oz depot and stop the supply of gasoline to Hamas is not adhered to, Shurat HaDin, on behalf of the Sderot families, will be filing a petition in Israel's high court of justice requesting that the court compel the government to cease and desist the supply of fuel to Hamas. "The
supply of fuel to Hamas in Gaza is as close to aiding and abetting the enemy as one can ever come. We supply them with gasoline, Iran supplies them with training, Syria supplies them with political cover – it's a perfect recipe for continued disaster. How can we complain about Iran and Syria with a straight face if we are aiding
Hamas in the same manner " concluded Darshan-Leitner.

No one cared enough

Our plea to the world to prevent Jean Ziegler—founder of the "Muammar Khaddafi Human Rights Prize"— from being elected to the UN Human Rights Council has been ignored because no one cares if a Jew lives or dies, especially the Muslim despots that have infected and infiltrated the United Nations over the last 60 years.

Sadly, to the sound of cheers, and by an overhwelming majority of 40 out of 47 votes, the UN Human Rights Council today elected Jean Ziegler, the co-founder of the "Muammar Khaddafi Human Rights Prize," as an expert advisor representing the Western world. And for its new Palestine expert, the council chose Richard Falk, who, like Ziegler, accuses the U.S. of being responsible for many of the world's ills and describes Israel in Nazi terminology.

Another knife has been stabbed into the heart of Israel.

Legless Jewish Chicks Preventing Hot Arab Chicks from Getting Any

The excellent Julia Gorin writes that in a standardly anti-Jewish Christian Science Monitor article titled “The Arabs on the Outside”, which details the hindered lives of some palestinians thanks to the security wall that Israel has built (and made adjustments to when the situation demands) has also created a mobility problem for Arabs living on the other side of it.

The article highlights the (sniff-sniff) poor Arab, Sherifa Shawara, who wants to get married. The second-year college student doesn’t lack for suitors. The problem is where she lives. Although Shawara lives within the Israeli-drawn boundaries of Jerusalem, she holds a West Bank ID and could be arrested if she’s caught inside the city but outside her village.

“I can’t move. I can’t go anywhere,” says Shawara, locking her arms across her chest and gazing bitterly into the distance. “Last week, the soldiers told me my name wasn’t on the list and I couldn’t go home. Recently, we went shopping and bought a lot, and the soldier wouldn’t even let us enter the village in a taxi, so we had to carry it all on foot.”

Ms. Gorin writes:

Poor Shawara. I’m sure Rivka (an Israeli everygirl composite) feels her pain. Because Rivka is having a hard time too. You see, Rivka falls out of her bed every morning as she tries to start her day, because she keeps forgetting that she’s missing her legs. “I can’t move. I can’t go anywhere,” Rivka might say. What’s more, apparently not too many guys are into amputee chicks, so Rivka can really identify with Shawara. Of course, Rivka has permission to move around, she just can’t.

So my question to Shawara is: would you like to trade places with Rivka? Or maybe you’d rather be Kinneret Boosany, sixty percent of whose body is burned (including most of her face), thanks to a suicide bomber she was serving coffee to?

Tell us, Monitor — who would you trade places with — Shawara or Kinneret?

Thought so.

But hey, what’s a few thousand more Jewish lives and limbs so that hot Arab chicks can get laid?

Israel is forced to act in self-defense to protect itself from deliberate missile attacks on its civilians by Hamas terrorists. Although Hamas makes no effort to comply with international law, Israel is committed to limiting itself to a lawful response. This means that, while Hamas uses civilians both as a shield and a target, Israel seeks to limit injury to civilians on both sides.

International law recognizes that for a military operation to be lawful, it must be directed at a "legitimate military objective" and be "proportionate."

Under the Geneva Conventions, if a military objective, such as a missile launcher or weapons stockpile, is placed in the heart of a civilian area, it does not cease being a lawful military objective. The responsibility for civilian casualties arising from the "shielding" lies with the party that deliberately placed civilians at risk.

A survey of international practice suggests that the steps taken by Israel, and its approach to proportionality, correspond to, or are more stringent than, those taken by most Western countries confronting similar threats.

Israel withdrew all its forces and civilians from Gaza more than two years ago. It created the first opportunity in Gaza's history for self-governance. Never before, certainly not during Egyptian military rule till 1967, did local residents have their fate in their own hands. Those who predicted that governance would moderate the Hamas message were proven wrong. And those in capitals from Moscow to Riyadh who believed they could talk sense to Hamas had little to show for their efforts.

Israel faces an Iranian-financed franchise on its border. Since Israel left Gaza, literally thousands of rocket and mortar attacks on Israeli towns and villages have occurred. What is Israel to do? Ignore the attacks? Turn the other cheek? Some would have Israel negotiate with Hamas, but over what? If the other party does not recognize your right to exist, what is there to discuss? The timetable for your own destruction? Others propose a hudna, or temporary truce. But if the outcome is to allow Hamas to strengthen its terrorist infrastructure, much as Hizbullah did in southern Lebanon after Israel's unilateral withdrawal in 2000, then Hamas, not Israel, benefits.

Hamas wants to use Gaza as a launching pad against Israel, while seeking protection from the international community. That gives new meaning to the word chutzpah. To protect the possibility of peace, the international community mustn't let Hamas get away with it.

The farce that is International Human Rights Day

Monday, December 10 is International Human Rights Day - commemorating the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the members of the United Nations in 1948. Following the unimaginable horrors of the Holocaust, the signatories pledged to protect the "inherent dignity" and the "equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family."

But like other promises made during this period, this one was also soon violated.

In much of the world, human rights, including the basic right to life, are given short shrift. The watchdogs, both in the United Nations itself, and in the accompanying network of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that claim to promote morality and human rights, have become a major part of the problem. The words that expressed revulsion at the crimes committed against the Jewish people - "war crimes," "collective punishment," "indiscriminate mass killing," "violations of international law," and so on - have become weapons in the political war accompanying the terror campaigns against Israel.

The "reformed" United Nations Human Rights Council, which is charged with implementing the 1948 Declaration, is run by many of the worst violators of human rights. Its reports are written by "experts" who are obsessed with attacking Israel. In 2001, the UN held a conference in Durban attended by thousands of delegates, ostensibly to combat racism and xenophobia. Following a preparatory conference in Iran, led by Human Rights Commissioner Mary Robinson, this exercise became a vehicle for hatred and anti-Semitism.

Many of the NGO "superpowers" are guilty of aiding and abetting this disgraceful process. Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch (HRW), the Paris-based FIDH (International Federation of Human Rights), and the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) in Geneva, routinely exploit these norms to pursue their own narrow ideological agendas. They participated in the NGO Forum of the 2001 Durban Conference, which was even worse than the diplomatic session. Like the UN, the NGO reports focus obsessively on Israel, and erase the context of terrorism in order to make false and frequent accusations. In 2002, an Amnesty official was quoted on the BBC confirming the false reports of a massacre in Jenin. In 2006, HRW published hundreds of pages attacking Israeli responses to Hizbullah attacks, and glossing over Hizbullah's aggression and use of human shields.

Similarly, Israel-based NGOs such as B'tselem, Bimkom, and Gisha, which claim to support universal human rights, use double standards to falsely and systematically portray Israeli responses to terror as violations of these moral norms.

The halo effect enjoyed by the UN and NGO human rights network two or three decades ago has also been eroded by reports which make headlines, but are later shown to be fabricated or unverifiable. Essentially lacking their own research capabilities, HRW and Amnesty rely on "local eyewitnesses" for evidence. These "eyewitnesses" know that their reports, regardless of the lack of evidence or context, will be used to promote boycotts, demonization and other political campaigns. In this way, human rights have become a vehicle to promote incitement, hatred and terror - the antithesis of the objectives proclaimed in 1948.

IN ORDER to change this dismal state of affairs, and restore the moral foundation and universality of human rights, the structure of the international diplomatic and NGO mechanisms must be overhauled. Kenneth Roth, who has headed Human Rights Watch since 1993, and Irene Khan, who has controlled Amnesty International since 2001, have been in power for far too long. The donors and members of these organizations must also act responsibility to ensure that their support is not abused. Donors to NGOs are like directors of corporations who are accountable for transgressions committed by the officers of their firms.

The Ford Foundation, which was threatened with investigation by the US Congress after funding the most virulent participants in the 2001 Durban NGO Forum, adopted guidelines to prevent a repetition. Some donors to HRW and the New Israel Fund (which funds B'tselem, Machsom Watch, Gisha, Bimkom, Adalah, and others) have cut or conditioned their donations on an end to the double standards, and some members and officials of Amnesty have resigned in protest. These are all steps in the right direction.

In the Spring of 2009, the UN Human Rights Council has scheduled a follow up to the infamous Durban conference. This provides a rare opportunity for the governments that actually care about human rights, as well as the NGO community, to reverse course, and demonstrate that the lessons have been learned. If they succeed, this will mark an important step in the restoration of the values embodied in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. But if they fail, the Declaration, and the foundation of an international moral code based on a single universal standard, may never recover.

Saudi Arabia Marks 136th Beheading of 2007

How quiet the global community is about this story. When the US executes a criminal after trials and appeals, it's top news for days and weeks. When Israel kills a palestinian arab in self-defense, they are made out to be monsters. But when a Muslim country executes its own criminals, CNN won't dispatch Christiane Amanpour to do a story about it. Typical international double-standards. Well, I have no sympathy for the Muslim dead. Poor Saudi Arabia could only dream of what life beyond the 7th century might be like, for it is a kingdom in name only; in reality, Saudi Arabia is just another Islamic hellhole. From FoxNews:

In a statement carried by the official Saudi Press Agency, the ministry said that Ali bin Suweid Al-Domnan killed Diyab bin Ali al-Mansour following an argument in the southern city of Najran. Saudi Arabia follows a strict interpretation of Islam under which those convicted of murder, drug trafficking, rape and armed robbery are executed in public with a sword. Sunday's execution brought to 136 the number of people beheaded in the kingdom this year, according to an Associated Press count. Saudi Arabia beheaded 38 people last year and 83 people in 2005.

The international community's double standard

When Jews shoot at Palestinians in defense against Palestinians who throw lethal stones at Jews in order to satisfy their hunger for Jewish blood and sinew, there is grotesque international outrage. Because, let's face it, as far as the international community is concerned, a Jew's life has no value. But when a Palestinian shoots at another Palestinian when no provocation exists, the international community hides their heads in the sand. Let's face it. Arabs are scary people and do not take well to criticism, so its best to just ignore their barbaric behavior and continue to diaper and bottle-feed them. That way, the world can proceed with their mindless vapid consumerism and socialist godlessness. Here's another example of the silence from the international community and the double standard when it comes to Jews. From JPost:

Hamas security forces on Monday opened fire at a mass rally commemorating the death of the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, violently dispersing close to 250,000 people who had gathered in the largest public display of support for the rival Fatah movement since Hamas seized control of the Gaza Strip in June.

Six civilians were killed and at least 85 people were wounded, hospitals and witnesses said. Among the critically wounded was a Hamas policeman who was shot in the head.

Hamas security officials said they fired toward protesters who threw stones at security compounds. Hamas police were positioned on rooftops around Gaza City, and protesters were seen running for cover at street corners.

Smoke was rising around the edges of the rally court yard, but thousands of supporters still milled around, as firing was heard from around the rally.

Eyewitnesses said Hamas gunmen roamed the streets later and started detaining protesters.

Hamas said one of the dead was killed by Fatah gunmen who had fired from rooftops, but that could not be confirmed. A Fatah official said the person, a Fatah supporter, was shot on his way to the rally by a racing car, accusing Hamas of the shooting.

Hamas said five of its policemen were injured, one seriously, and accused Fatah gunmen.

I have not heard of any international outrage or protest against Hamas, have you?

A Different Law for Jews

Why are we witnessing a recurrent historical phenomenon, a different law for Jews - a unique and racist law - as opposed to all others? If human rights and human lives were what interested the British, they would devote much greater energy to what is happening in Darfur than to what is happening in the West Bank.

The British lecturers know the truth. They know that in Chechnya, for example, Putin's Russia wiped out tens of thousands of Muslims. They know that the Israeli army is the epitome of humanity compared to the Russian army. They know that in Central Europe, in Srebrenica, more Muslims were slaughtered in one week than have been killed in 40 years of Israeli occupation. They know that British soldiers, who control the Basra area in Iraq, and U.S. soldiers in Baghdad and in other areas, behave much less humanely than do the Israeli soldiers in the West Bank. They know that the Syrian regime brutally suppresses the Kurdish minority, and jails any intellectual who dares to open his mouth against the regime.

And, given this, they have not decided to boycott Russia, Britain, the USA or Syria. They have decided to boycott only Israel.

How is it that the Jews are again deserving of boycotts even though they did not perpetrate any crime against humanity, if we compare what other countries have done, including Britain, to what Israel is doing?

The good news is that things must be put into perspective. Two months ago I was present at some lectures in London in the framework of "Apartheid Week" that called, for example, for the destruction of Israel. Lo and behold - the lecture halls were nearly empty.

Most British know that the problem is not Palestine. The problem is Londonstan, which is being overrun by Islamists who declare vociferously: We want to raise the green flag [of Islam] over London.

Black Leaders Protest Kofi Annan's 'complacency' Toward Genocide in Sudan

Activists plan a demonstration against U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan, accusing him of complacency toward the slaughter of blacks by Sudan's radical Islamic regime.

The protest is planned for Wednesday in Boston, the evening before Annan will deliver a commencement address at Harvard University.

Sudan's cleric-backed National Islamic Front regime in the Arab and Muslim north declared a jihad on the mostly Christian and animist south in 1989. Since 1983, an estimated 2 million people have died from war and related famine. About 5 million have become refugees.

The current slaughter, however, is in Darfur, Western Sudan, where an estimated 30,000 have been killed. Most of the victims are black Muslims who do not support the radical Arab regime.

The protesters say Annan "must not stand by as genocide happens on his watch again, as it did in South Sudan and in Rwanda."

Demonstrators include Sudanese refugees and the groups My Sister's Keeper, the Black Ministerial Alliance, the North America Fashoda Association, the South Sudanese Community in America, the 10-Point Coalition, the American Anti-Slavery Group and the Sudan Campaign.

Rights groups, which call the situation in Darfur the "worst humanitarian crisis in the world," say along with the thousands dead, countless others have been raped, maimed and enslaved in militia raids taking place amid the Islamist government's "racist genocidal campaign against Sudan's black Muslim people."

The activists say villages are being attacked in the Shilluk Land and the Upper Nile Region of South Sudan "as the U.N. stands by."

Meanwhile, despite the peace accord in the South, the protesters say, tens of thousands of Christian and Animist Africans remain as slaves to Arab masters.
