Israel Can Shoot Down Dozens of Missiles Simultaneously

On Tuesday, while Mahmoud "monkey man" Ahmadinejad arrogantly bragged about a new weapon his theocratic dictatorship supposedly tested for use at sea which can "easily" close a major oil passageway, the Israel Air Force simultaneously unveiled Sniper, a system developed by three Israeli companies that identifies a target, whether missile or plane, while it is still hundreds of kilometers from Israel, enabling it to be struck with missiles.

The IAF stressed that this system is currently reserved for Israel's exclusive use; U.S. Patriot batteries elsewhere in the world are not equipped with Sniper.

A senior officer said the first Sniper units were deployed about a month ago, and more will be deployed in the future. He added that Israel now has the ability to bring down dozens of missiles simultaneously, and to select which missiles to target based on each missile's projected landing site.

Some academics and policymakers bend over backwards to convince themselves and others that Iranian President Ahmadinejad does not mean what he says. Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) argued that the proper translation of Ahmadinejad's quotes is the subject of debate and that translations used were either misquoted or out of context. It's a line which originated with Juan Cole, a University of Michigan professor, who wrote: "This idiom does not exist in Persian, and that what Ahmadinejad actually said was, 'This occupation regime over Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time.'" But here, the Islamic Republic provides its own clarification. In its official translations, it headlined Ahmadinejad's call to "wipe Israel off the map."

Together, these acts compose an effective advertising campaign against Jews and Israel. Their cartoon contest has generated 228 persuasive, but one sided images, that are now circulating around the Internet. The conference generated so much media attention that it provided Holocaust deniers an international media platform to spread their hate messages world-wide.

Although the Internet has become a breeding ground for bigots, it also provides a forum to voice opposition. When challenged, if you say nothing, then your detractors will speak for you. Why should a group of politically motivated hate advocates be allowed to rewrite history to suit their ends? Shouldn’t the historians make an accurate recording of this event, and appropriately refer to it as another low point for humanity in the 21st century?

Ahmadinejad Opponents Win Elections

Opponents of Iranian President Ahmadinejad won nationwide elections for local councils, final results confirmed Thursday. Moderate conservatives critical of Ahmadinejad won a majority of seats, followed by reformists. Some conservatives feel Ahmadinejad has spent too much time confronting the West and failed to deal with Iran's struggling economy. In Tehran, candidates supporting Mayor Qalibaf, a moderate conservative, won seven of the 15 council seats. Reformists won four, while Ahmadinejad's allies won three. Similar anti-Ahmadinejad sentiment was visible in the final results of a parallel election held to select members of the 86-member Assembly of Experts.
