Government Minister Pierre Gemayal murdered in Beirut

Just two days after Hezbollah threatened to topple the government of Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora, gunmen have murdered one of his cabinet ministers.

The streets of Beirut on Tuesday saw yet another politically motivated killing. Prominent Lebanese Christian cabinet member Pierre Gemayal, a strong opponent of Syrian influence in Lebanon, was shot while driving in his car in the Christian suburb of Jdeideh. According to witnesses, gunmen rammed his car from behind and fired at Gemayal, 34, at point blank range. He died after being rushed to the hospital.

The assassination is certain to exacerbate an already tenuous political situation in Lebanon. The radical Islamist group Hezbollah has been demanding a greater say in the Lebanese cabinet and has threatened to topple the government of Prime Minister Fouad Siniora. Hezbollah, which has close ties to neighboring Syria, accuses the Siniora government of being pro-American and has been preparing to take to the streets to force the prime minister's resignation.

Syrians? Most possibly. Iranians? Most probably. Israelis? No way. There is no logical reason for Israelis to have killed the single most democratic political leader in Lebanon, regardless of what the Muslim assphats at Ynet's forums say.

This assassination stinks of Syrian Muslim Hezbollah savage barbarianism. Prove me wrong.
