Where's the outrage?

A Russian border patrol boat fired on a Japanese crab fishing boat near disputed islands off Japan's northern coast Wednesday morning, killing one fisherman and detaining three others. Japan lodged a protest, while Russia said the border patrol fired a warning shot as the fishing boat allegedly failed to obey an order to stop after the border guards suspected it of fishing for crab illegally in waters claimed by Russia. Russian authorities seized the fishing boat, which belongs to a fishery cooperative in Nemuro, Hokkaido, and towed it to Furukamappu port in Kunashiri Island, where the authorities questioned the crew. The incident took place at around 4 a.m. Japan time in waters near Russian-administered Kaigara Island off the Nemuro Peninsula on the eastern tip of Hokkaido. Not since October 1956 has a Japanese fisherman been shot and killed by the Russian border patrol, according to the Coast Guard.

Where's the international outrage, hypocrites? Where's Kofi Annan calling it a disproportionate response? Where's resolution #1772 being written at an emergency session at the UN? Why are not CNN, CBS, ABC, and Al-Manar showing photos of the ravaged body of the fisherman and the bullet-riddled patrol boat?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, you know the script. People are only enraged when Israel defends its borders. Any other sovereign nation who defends its borders is allowed to do so. Oh, well, move along, there's nothing to see here. The moral of the story is that life goes on for the rest of the world, it's only Israel who is held to a different - and higher - standard.
