Palestinians Wednesday prevented a bombing at the Karni crossing between Gaza and Israel. Three members of the Palestinian security forces were injured after they opened fire on a group of Palestinians attempting to drive an explosives-rigged car through the crossing. The suspects returned fire, but after a shoot-out that lasted several minutes, fled the scene. Palestinian police sappers arrived on the scene to disable the car bomb. Also Wednesday, the Israeli daily Yediot Aharonot reported two Palestinian soldiers and two members of the international security forces -- citizens of New Zealand and Norway -- were wounded in an explosion on the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing. An Egyptian news agency said the explosion occurred outside the soldiers' base near the al-Jura minefield. Israeli security officials were investigating whether the two incidents were related.
