Most Israeli Arabs agree with the country being defined as a democratic Jewish homeland, a survey found. According to the poll released by the Israel Democracy Institute this week, 77 percent of Israeli Arabs would support the ratification of a Zionist constitution as long as it guaranteed them full and equal rights as a minority. The remainder said they were opposed to Jewish particularism in Israel, although it was not clear whether they felt the country should be religiously pluralistic. The findings ran counter to common assumptions in Israel that Arab citizens have been radicalized by the four-year-old conflict with the Palestinians.
