On the Dec 7th broadcast of Nightline, the host Martin Bashir concealed an inconvenient truth in his Closing Thought. Speaking of the inclusion of a new symbol, a red crystal, into the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Bashir neglected to mention the well-known fact that the ICRC has refused to recognize the red Star of David as a humanitarian (and protected) symbol. Since its creation more than 60 years ago, Magen David Adom (MDA) has been denied membership after refusing to replace its red Star of David emblem with a red cross. Bashir deceived the audience tonight by implying that the Muslim Red Crescent provokes Israelis. Being the new ABC Israel-basher, Bashir failed to report that the reason that the Red Crystal was included in place of a Red Star of David is singularly because the Red Star of David provokes Muslims. 192 States are party to the Geneva Conventions who decide on the protocol to make these kinds of decisions. See the arrogance? Other nations get to decide what symbol Israel, a sovereign nation, can use so that the Star of David doesn't offend "others". Martin Bashir failed to relay these facts, as well. Clearly, ABC has chosen to continue its anti-Israel bias just when we were relieved Ted Koppel was finally relegated to a back alley and removed from the public's eyes and ears.
